Planmeca are the only manufacturer offering a CAD CAM system with open software. This means that dentists can invest in the equipment gradually at a pace that suits their budget and needs. The complete CAD CAM and milling system consists of the PlanScan, CAD CAM and PlanMill.
Each element it’s available to buy separately which allows you to start off with the PlanScan which allows you to take a digital scan of your patients’ teeth rather than using an impression, the open software allows you to send the scan to your lab for design and milling.
When you are ready to upgrade your system, you can add the PlanCAD Easy which allows you to design the crown yourself before forwarding to the lab for milling.
Alternatively, you may upgrade to the full system which allows you to digitally scan, design and mill the crown from scratch. The beauty of this system is that treatments can be done within one visit to the practice, within a 30 minute appointment slot; your nurse can take the digital scan, there is no need to store impression materials or patient impressions as digital files can be stored within your practice management software.

Digital is the future. Historically, to make a crown for a patient, dentists have taken an impression, fitted a temp, sent the impression to the lab, the lab mills the crown and sends it back to the dentist to fit.
Planmeca’s fully integrated CAD CAM and milling system shows integration at its best. It enables the dentist or nurse to take a digital scan of the patients mouth using the Planmeca PlanScan (no need for uncomfortable impressions), which is then transferred to the PlanCAD Easy system which allows the dentist to design the crown within the software. This information is used by the PlanMill 40 milling machine which mills the crown from a block within 12 minutes. A treatment that would have typically taken two appointments can now be done within one visit to the practice and complete within 20-30 minutes.
Have you considered the negative effects of referring your patients to another practice for a CBCT?
Time – multiple appointments are an inconvenience.
Competition – by referring patients to another practice you are effectively introducing them to your competition.
Professionalism – referrals are old school. Lifestyles are busier than ever, patients want to attend a professional practice that has the capability to offer all their treatment needs in one place.
Have you considered the costs of referring your patients for CBCT?
If you are referring four or more patients a month for CBCT, investing in a CBCT scanner could save you hundreds of pounds a month and minimise the negative effects discussed above.
Furthermore, you have the ability to generate revenue by offering a referral service to other local practices.
